What is it?
Pilates is a low-impact exercise method originally created by Joseph Pilates in the early 20th century. Widely used by dancers for decades,
the Pilates method finally hit mainstream fitness in the 1990's. Utilizing matwork, props and spring-loaded resistance machines, the Pilates
method challenges the body and all of its muscle groups in numerous ways, and in numerous relationships to gravity - resulting in long,
lean and efficient muscles. The primary principle of Pilates is stabilization of the spine and pelvis; resulting from this stabilization
will be a decrease in lower back pain and shoulder tension, your body will utilize the limbs more efficiently, increasing energy levels and improving stamina.
Who is it for?
Pilates benefits everyone. The Pilates method is designed to strengthen the "core" muscles (deep abdominals, pelvic floor and
deep muscles surrounding the spine); a strong supported spine means a healthier body, and healthier and efficient movement.
Both men and women can greatly benefit from Pilates work, no matter what your condition or age.
